OK, i know WHY they bark. My dad locks them in there crats at night because if we dont they mark all over the house. I think they are barking because they feel alone like we abandon them. But when they start barking my dad gets pissed and beats them. This really disturbs me, i dont think they should be treated that way, i told my dad not to do that but he said "Their dogs you cant treat them like royalty"

So how can i get them to stop, without hurting them.

  1. Try a citronella bark collar.

Your dad needs help, I'm sorry for you & your dogs.

  2. No one who mistreats a dog should own one.  Dogs bark.  Humans talk.  Could your dad get through life without talking.  I would suggest that you ask him to put the crate in your room next to your bed.  A radio in the room might help.  Beating them will not shut them up and may make that worse as well as imped house breaking.  It is almost impossible to house train a dog who is afraid.  He is teaching them to fear him. They will begin to do what is called submissive peeing.  If your dad cannot quit beating them, you should try to find them a new home where someone will love and care for them properly.  If I ever saw him beat one I would call the humane society and report it.  Hope he does not beat you.

  3. It could be a combination of a million things....

Dogs need attention no matter how they get it and dogs will even (as sad as this is) do bad things just to get attention even though its in the form of them getting yelled at and smacked.

Do the dogs look at your dad as the leader? if so he needs to spend more positive time with them.

I agree a towel over the crates to darken them should help.

Time to play mind tricks with your Dad.......

Tell him ever bad thing they do is because of his lack of attention. He is the cause, if he wants it fixed he needs to fix himself and the dogs will cure themselves.

Or tell him how sad you are because he makes the dogs sad with his lack of effort. Tell him the dogs look up to him and he has let them down. Look how they bark all night and mark the house.

Tell him beating the dogs really upsets you and you know when he does it he's not really mad at the dogs but mad at himself and you don't think thats fair to you or the dogs.

Tell your dad its time the dogs become apart of our life again and its not fair for them to go threw life like this. When we got them we made a comitment to them and weve let them down and this upsets you deeply.

There is really no quick fix so don't look for one. Maybe this is something you and you dad can do together. It could be my birthday present that you don't hit the dogs anymore.

One or all of those should help him see again.

    Hope things turn out ok.

    good luck!!!

  4. first off, your dad is an idiot. find a rescue in your area for the breed and get them out of your house before your dad seriously injures them.

what a moron your dad is. shouldn't have got dogs. idiots.

  5. Most often, barking results from boredom, fear, or frustration.

If you don't hear him do it, but you hear about it from neighbors, it's likely your dog barks out of boredom when you're not around. In short, he enjoys barking--it's a way to occupy himself when he's left alone.

Fear barking, on the other hand, is a stress response. It's caused by something unknown to the dog, such as a sudden noise or another dog's bark. Fear barking can also result from sights and sounds a dog finds disconcerting, like skateboards or sirens. In these cases, dogs bark to send a clear message to whatever's scaring them: Stay away!

A third type is frustration barking. This occurs when the dog is denied access to something he desperately wants, such as a favorite toy, a piece of steak, or the terrier on the other side of the fence.

  6. Try putting a blanket or towel over the crates so they have like a den area and can't see whats going on around them.  Try putting some music on for them which might help.  Also educate your dad and let him know that beating a dog will only make them afraid and aggressive toward him and does not accomplish anything.  It's a shame your father is such a terrible role model for his children and doesn't understand how to properly care and treat an animals.  Sad, sad, sad.

  7. If your dogs are puppies and they're in the crate thy are probably feeling lonely or scared or bored. and sometimes they bark because they have to pee if they are 4 months they should be taken out every 4 hours, if they are 5 months - every 5 hours, etc etc. tell your dad that to beat the dogs is the WORST way to train all you have to do is say NO! and say bad or not nice.

another way to train them is to say no bark and when they stop give them a treat (reward them) and say "good boy/girl. no bark, good" and they'll understand and you repeat also used a hand gesture such as a finger to your mouth. try it.

and remember to tell your father that a TRAINER told you that it is the worst way to train your animal and they WILL turn on you. not only through aggression but through betrayal and loss of affection.

    good luck

  8. Try buying a big crate for both of them to share. Also, supply them with lots of fun toys and water. That is sad that your dad beats them :(.
