my girlfriend and i have been living together for a little over five years, we share a baby and an apartment. i have a good job that offers both health and dental although we must be married for her to be added. now truthfully i cant afford to pay for any insurances and she only works about 18 hrs a week so therefor she cant afford insurance either. we tried to apply with medicade and affinity and both denied her because i make to much money on paper. what other options do i have, im 21 and she 22 and already she has lost two teeth because of the breast feeding. pls help!

  1. Talk to your employer, some offer insurance for couples that live together, it's for g*y couples that can't marry.  If not just go down to the court house and marry her, you don't have to have a wedding.  Just getting the marriage license doesn't cost that much.  A lot cheaper than paying full price for the dental work.

  2. not to brake your little heart or anything but you guys are still really young, im sure you have a "good" job and everything but by the sounds of it, if you did you would not have been denied insurance.. you really need to visit places and talk to these people so they can better help you with the situation, my guess is as only good as yours.. there are always 2 sides to a story so you never know.. you guys are american right?? see if you guys lived in canada health insurance would be free! i live in canada so i have no idea how the health or dental insurance is in america.. i could only assume that if one has a great job then they would be allowed insurance...

  3. You should talk to your benefit administator, thats usually the HR person. Not sure about the laws there but here, if you live together, you are considered common law, which is like being married. She should be allowed to be added to your benefits as your spouse, even though technically your not married. Your child should also be added as a dependent under you benefits. All you should have to do is go and fill out a form and they should be added. Actually you might even want to call your policy holder( the insurance company) and ask them about adding your girlfriend, they would be able to clarify about what I was speaking about the whole common law thing, it would be available to them to access and then if they can't add her because your benefits are positive enrolled meaning your employer has to approve, you can then go fill out the forms, but if its not, then you should just be able to send in a claim for her and she would then be added at that time

And K&K, I live in Canada also and health is not free in Canada, yes, you can go to the hospital and doctor without paying but any other medical issues such as prescribed drugs, glasses, and other stuff is not free, yes Canada has great health care but its not that great, don't give people the wrong idea

  4. Hi, Check out this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands since. From cleanings, fillings, xrays, exams..etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan for the entire family. Married or unmarried. Orthodontics and cosmetics surgery is also included. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. Good luck and hope this helps.
