How can i get my horses head down?

i have an 8 year old quarter horse gelding. i ride english and show 2' but can jump 3' with him. he really has a problem keeping his head down. on his good days he will but 9/10ths of the time he doesnt. how do i get him to put his head down?! i ride with a martengale but i dnt wanna use a neck stretcher, they arent effective on him

  1. You can try a gog. It makes the horse keep there head down when your lunging them.

    When your riding you can use draw reins.

    Dressage riders have a lot of effective things as well as western pleasure riders. I would look up what they use. =]


  2. Lunge him before you ride and see how he carries his head. At the moment he will fight the martingale and you want his head carriage to be normal. Try a thick sheepskin noseband, this will help.
