How can i get my ipod back to normal?

I recently dropped my ipod about a foot and it froze up for a little. After about a minute, it was back to normal and fully functional with no problems. Today when I went to sync it, it said it was in recovery mode and needed to be restored. I restored but now everytime it connects to the computer, it says data is corrupted and needs to be restored again. I have restored it 10 times and followed what the apple website said. Has anyone experienced this and found out what to do. It isn't under warranty anymore and is a 5th generation. Also, when not connected to the computer, all of the ipod looks fine like when you first open it.

  1. Yea I wuld go to the Apple store nearby to see what to do to fix it. Usually pressing the center button with the menu button works for practically everything. But thats to turn it on and everything. Computer stuff like Syncing music and all I would talk to apple and see what you can do.

  2. My iPod, how i reset it is by holding down the center button and the menu, hold it for about 8 seconds, and the apple logo shows up and will start working shortly thereafter. Try that, it mnay work.

  3. Its possible that the firmware file got corrupted (damaged hard drive) when you dropped it, though one foot really shouldn't do much. I've dropped my iPod loads of times without and negative consequences.

Well, try this. Search Google for the 5G firmware. (Is yours 5th generation - 5G, or 5.5th generation). If you can search for songs on the iPod, then its 5.5G. So search google for the firmware for whaterver model you have.

Then go to ipodwizard.net and download the iPodwizard program. If you're running in vista, make sure that when you open iPodWizard, you right click and select "Run As Administrator".

Once in iPodWizard, select the dropdown box next to edit mode and choose firmware file. Then click open firmware and search for the firmware file you downloaded from your google search (make sure you unzipped it if it was a zip or rar file). This might take a minute or two, and iPodWizard may freeze up during that time (while it loads the firmware into the program). I suggest waiting at least a minute without clicking if it freezes up (it should unfreeze when the firmware is downloaded).

Then plug your iPod in. If iTunes opens up, close iTunes, but DO NOT EJECT YOUR IPOD. iPod wizard should detect your iPod. Click Downgrade Firmware.

NOTE: THIS SHOULD NOT DELETE ANY OF YOUR MUSIC OR IPOD FILES IF DONE CORRECTLY. However, IpodWizard is meant mostly for hacking iPods, not necessarily fixing them. I can't guarantee that this will work, but I can guarantee that it will not s***w up your iPod (other than the already damaged files), so its pretty much risk-free.

You may also notice that, if this works, the theme of your iPod may have changed, because these hacked firmwares usually have cooler themes. But at least you're ipod will work normally.

ADDITION: This will void any warranty or apple agreement you may have had. I know this doesn't really affect you since you're warranty is already over.

  4. hm, that's interesting.  if you've done all that then i would just suggest to take it to apple.  i know you said your warranty is over, but what do you really have to lose?  they might tell you how to fix it, and since the warranty is over they could fix it for you but you would have to pay for it.  the damages might be expensive so you might be better off just buying a new one.
