  1. Hit it more with the full face of the racquet, less slice

  2. practice throwing the ball right in front of your foot that is back. Get the perfect height and when your ready start hitting it. To get the hardest hit hit it with an open hand and right on the bottom fatty part of your hand since its the hardest part. Always follow through on your serves, don't just stop your hand mid swing after you hit the ball.

  3. practice throwing the ball up in the air as if your going to serve it a couple times..that way you can figure out the perfect height at where to throw it..also make sure right foot (if your right handed) is pointing towards where you want the ball to go (that always helps for me for some reason)

  4. It will depend a bit on what kind of ball you are using.  If it's indoor, it's probably a bit lighter, with a smoother surface.  In any sport, topspin allows you to hit harder and give the ball a downward motion, but with an indoor ball, you won't get as much reaction on the ball and it may tend to sail long.  You can still work with it a bit.  With indoor balls or lighter outdoor balls, I prefer to try to hit a hard knuckle ball, by essentially matching the contour of my hand to the contour of the ball.  I don't try to put any spin on it - I just hit it straight on.  With an outdoor ball that's a bit heavier or has a rougher surface (i.e. old school Top Flites), you can really pound it with lots of topspin and it will stay in.

Another key is your toss.  Do not toss the ball way out in front of you... I keep mine basically right in front of my head, without too high of a toss.  If it's too far in front of you, you wind up 'reaching' and you won't get the kind of power you want.  I see female high school vball players do this all the time, and they just don't get much on the ball.

Finally, if you want a straighter serve, make sure not to 'clip' the sides of the ball... you can do that if you want to make it curve one way or the other, but you lose some power.

  5. What has always helped for me is to toss the ball really low and very infront of me. When you hit the ball move fast (have a fast strong arm)
