I'm twelve, and I feel like I should be allowed to do things other kids my age can do by themselves, such as ride their bikes to the park or take the school bus home. But my parents won't even let me walk to the neighbors' house by myself!!! I HAVE TO HAVE AN ESCORT! (how bogus is that....?) And last year, when we were vacationing on a cruise, my parents wouldn't let me go to places on the ship by myself because they think someone might throw me overboard. I'm sick of this!!!! I tried talking to them about it, but they say something like, "There's kidnappers everywhere you look. You're not ready until you're 18." Ummm... okay... aren't they being a little paranoid? They don't think that I know what to do if someone DOES try to kidnap me.. (Obviously, scream for help.) What should I do?

  1. You're only 12 sweetie - they will be somewhat "overproective" until you're in your late teens more than likely - to gain some indepenence though, you have to get them to completely trust you - that will come in time though...

  2. Lmao srry for laughing but I just find that funny. Your parents have you in their best interests but I think you should just take more chances just go to the park or neighbors house when you want to. Ask for a cell phone and let them call you when they're scared that you have been "kidnapped"
