  1. they only will bring service to an area if they make lots of money...!! like a new sub-division and such...

  2. In response to Joe R's response,  Satellite is the same monthly price as EVDO is, I install both.  Depending on location of cell towers in your area EVDO would be a better option b/c of latency issues with satellite.  If  you are on the outer rim of a cell tower, the equipment you need to amplify the EVDO signal correctly is quite expensive.  WildBlue satellite internet is 325 for equipment and install / 49 a month,  an air card (sprint's better) is 59 for unlimited service(and it is actually unlimited upload and download as opposed to Verizon's 'unlimited' service which is only 5 GB / month)  plus the equipment you need to improve a weak signal is anywhere from 400 to 800 bucks.

But I do agree with you on the phone company, there is no profit for them to bring the service to you, I have had customers say the cable and phone company want anywhere from 4000- 16000 to bring a line 300 yards up the road.

  3. call them and ask when you will be updated

  4. I'm having the same problem and really there is nothing you can do... well maybe make a petition or something.

I have cable internet and it's super fast but you also have the option of sattelite internet if cable internet doesn't reach you for some odd reason.

  5. data service is not a required service. If they do not feel that the area where you are is profitable then you may never have high speed broadband provided by your local teleco.

If your area is fed by copper cables, they are not going to upgrade or replace the copper cables, you are going to have to wait until the fiber optic is run in your neighborhood.

You are going to have to look outside your local teleco for broadband access.

    your options are

    cable modem

    cellular EV-DO

    cellular EDGE

WiMax (new technology not offered many places yet)

    WiFi if available

satellite (expensive, but the only option for many people in rural areas)
