  1. Sorry to say, but as we get older, reactions/reflexes do also.  Try more exercising and eating less.  Good luck!1

  2. I had to do this a lot between seasons. i read a lot and as fast as i could i played around with a volleyball while laying on the ground on my back. trying to set it straight up. it's harder than it sounds. keep your mind sharp by getting enough sleep and eating right. exercising gives you good chemicals in your brain. spend time with friends and don't sweat the small stuff.

  3. i don't know if this works to well but you could try playing a card game which has you work fast and stuff. like speed or snap. they are fun games and they have you work and think fast so maybe that will sharpen up your reflexes a bit.

  4. sorry to say that you cant just regain your reflexes...sometimes the older you get, the slower you get!!! But i would definitely try to focus more!!

  5. One saying that my coach told me, "anticipate, don't react" learns to quickly see the ball off of people hands and the angle they show you....or just train to move quicker.

  6. Play against the wall. Spike the ball downwards so it hits the ground close to the wall and rebounds off of it. As the ball comes back to you, spike it again. Usually you play with the rest of your team but playing by yourself increases your speed and footwork that keeps you moving. Good luck!

  7. Its all about focus you must clear your mind from all outside influence. Get a dog and run miles with the dog every morning it's great exercise and therapeutic to a hurried mind.

  8. Sounds like a mental problem more than a physical one.  Your neurotransmitters are not firing on all cylinders at the moment.  If you are smoking the bad stuff, lay off.

I would recommend reading a book a week.  Any sort of concentration strengthening technique really.  Get the sharp focus returned and the sharp reaction will follow.

    Feel it.

  9. well, how much volleyball did you play in the offseason?

    Probably not much, I'm guessing.

so, it's going to take some time to get your body and mind back into that volleyball frame of mind.

The best thing I can suggest is come up with little things that you can do while you're playing (or practicing) - keep on the balls of your feet, get in a ready position, focus on the game, the server, the ball - and work on not looking outside of the court (with the exception of your court). Focus on the game, not on your friends, not on that cute guy (or girl) in the stands.

If you're serious about volleyball, you might want to consider a club team, or other volleyball leagues that you can play in during the "off-season" to keep you sharp.

You can also practice on your own, but that's not nearly as effective as playing the game.

    Good luck to you.
