my son is 10 1/2 months, and he'd much rather drink cereal and formula from his bottle than eat any table food. if i feed him rice or soft veggies from my plate, he'll eat a few spoonfuls (from his baby spoons) but then he doesn't want anymore. i want him to be able to eat more table food by his 1st bday, but so far we appear to be behind schedule. even if he does finish off something like a pb&j sandwich, in the end he still wants to drink nearly 6 oz of cereal and formula from his bottle. help!

  1. He may not like the feel of the silverware or plasticware in his mouth.  Try small soft foods that he can pick up and eat on his own.  Wean him off the cereal by putting less and less in his formula each day.

  2.   You shouldnt put cereal in the baby bottles.. try mixing it and giving it to him with a spoon instead, my pediatrician told me it creates lazy eating habits.  Try different consistencies some babies like it a bit thicker some thin mixed with some fruit for breakfast..  Try mac and cheese, babies love that.. cheerios.. puffs or cheese curls disovle easily.  Maybe if you hold back the bottles a little he will be hungrier for his meals and eat better at the table then wont be as hungry for his bottle.  Try to start weening him off those bottles. Maybe try some fruits, diced bananas or grapes..

  3. Just keep trying! Right now their main source of food should still be formula/breastmilk. Until they hit that one year mark. That said, just keep trying different foods, you will find there are some that he will love to eat. Do you try very many finger foods? Sometimes it can be exciting to baby just to "do it himself". Maybe try bitesize pieces of carrots and soft veggies that he can pick up. Just be ready for the mess! =)

  4. GIVE HIM THE TABLE HE'LL LOVE THAT

  5. some kids can be picky about foods. I would try to sit him in his highchair  and put some things on his tray for him to feed himself. put his formula in a sippy and don't add cereal unless a doctor has told you to for medical reasons. My son did not have a tooth in his head and was stealing handfuls of mac-n-cheese off my plate at 7-8 months old. At 10 months old he was eating gerber graduates meals and baby food. give him a blunt set of baby fork and spoon and let him chase the food around his tray while you sneak food in his mouth .

  6. You are certainly not behind on anything. Some dr.'s recommend starting rice cereal at 6 months and no table food until 1 year and i went by that somewhat until my son wouldnt eat baby food anymore and didnt like the rice cereal. Babies have really small stomaches so when they only eat alittle to you it may just be enough for them. I had the same concern and the dr. told me that. He took more to fruit instead of veggies but i still always atleast offered it. didnt really eat any meat at first and ate lots of applesauce and cereal. They might only take to one thing for like a week or two but it will take time for them to eat different things. Just offer things you want him to eat and if he wants to eat it he will. Takes time and patience. Good luck and hope this helps. P.S. My son didnt eat very much meat and his iron was low so he had to be on an iron supplemnet for a while so just keep an eye on those things to keep him healthy. You said he was on formula and most usually have good source of iron.
