How can i get my teddy bear hamster to like me better?

my brown teddy bear hamster has already started to like me a bit he takes food from me, but only from between the bars of his cage, sometimes he lets me pet him with one finger and i tried to put food in my palm for him to eat but he wont take it he is really afraid of my hand and i am trying really hard to get him to like me what can i do????

You should have been able to hold it before you bought it. But, what I have done in the past is to catch it then hold to my chest. They calm done when you hold them close. But don't try to hold it when it first wakes up, they tend to poo when they first wake up. But anyway, hold it close and try not to make sudden movements. Some hamsters are really protective of their territory. You'll probably get along better with him if you take him out of his cage into a secure area where he cant run away or hurt himself, and try to feed him out of your hands there. Also, just keep on letting him to know your scent. My own hamsters know me now to the point where I can take them out of the cage and they'll fall asleep in my hands. I hope that you can get there with your own hamster ^_^.

keep offering your hamster food and soon your hamster will become not afraid of your hand then you can take it to the next step holding your hamster.  keep taking small steps with your hamster and it should start to enjoy your company.
