How can i get my video camera hooked up to my computer?

so it will recognize it, it has usb port on it and when i plug it into the computer it doesn't do anything. i want to be able to put my video's onto my computer. please help me..

MiniDV camcorders need to use firewire. Add a firewire port and but a cable. Launch MovieMaker or iMovie and Capture or Import.

USB is used only for HDD or flash memory - you need to install the drivers.

DVD camcorders need to have the disc finalized and the DVD will be ripped in the computer's drawer loading DVD drive.

So... Which camcorder and which computer? Need more detail to provide you more help.
