  1. Make good business cards and hand them to every one you ever meet.Make flyers and ask the local shops to deliver them with the papers.Phone up old customers and let them know you are still in business.Advertise on the side of your car, your sisters ,your dads and anyone else you can think of.Get a uniform with your name on it so you look the part.Ask people to recommend you if they like your work. And allways have the right tools!Good luck. You have to let people know you are there cos they wont find you otherwise, now will they.

  2. If you have access to a printer, print up flyers yourself and get your friends and relatives to help you distribute them around the area you wish to work in. Eventually word of mouth will get you more work provided you do a good job in the first place. (You could do some voluntary work for aged clubs and that way your name would get known in the community very quickly, - grannies talk a lot !. )  Good luck. !

  3. I have no experience whatsoever with London. That said, however, I would imagine there are some universal practices when it comes to marketing one's home handyman services. Here are a few ideas:

    1. See if there is a Web site that allows local businesses or companies to advertise their services. Here in the colonies, we have Craigslist. It's a nationwide posting service that is broken down by specific cities around the nation. So, if I have a business in Atlanta and want to market to local Atlanta residents, I can do so. There may be something similar in London.

    2. Depending on your service, see if local merchants will allow you to advertise your services on their community bulletin board. Again, here in the Colonies, local hardware stores will allow plumbers, landscapers, carpenters and the like to promote their services to the community at large. This is a win-win, because it allows the store owner to offer the products and the services needed to install/use them.

    3. Consider investing in a magnetic sign to place on your vehicle. This is a very inexpensive form of advertising. Since you will be driving your vehicle all over, potential customers will be able to see your ad everywhere. Be sure to print up some business cards or flyers to distribute, too, as you will undoubtedly have people asking for your phone number while you are out and about.

    4. Along the same line as the magnetic sign, consider having your company name or logo printed on a hat or on t-shirts that you and/or your employees can wear while on the job. This will help create an air of professionalism about your business.

    5. As for looking for actual clients, you might consider promoting yourself to others in related fields. For instance, if you build fences, you might consider contact local landscapers. Landscapers often time work closely with fence builders and deck builders on projects. Give some thought to which fields might be related to yours. In your case, you might want to reach out to remodeling companies,  locksmiths, etc.

Good luck. I hope you find some of these thoughts useful. Even if they are coming from a Yank.

  4. get all of your friends to spread word

put up notices in local sops and stuff

if u can get flyers printed up and put them in letterboxes!

get a van and put ur name and number on it to advertise!!!!!

  5. My dad own's a contracting business. I would suggest that you do an excellent job [duh], ask the client to let you take before and after pictures, and if you have developed a good relationship-- Ask them to fill out a comment card, which you can use later as a testimonial. And if nothing else market, market, market. Even if you give someone a business card that doesn't need your services, they know two people who do.

  6. Well with every business there got to be up and downs during start up. The cheapest and most efficient way of getting more clients is word of mouth, get new clients, ask for refferals, refferals gives you refferals. Also try to advertise on free websites under business services. It is also to carry a book with some testimonials.  Good luck

  7. If you are any good, you will get word of mouth business

  8. Hi, where I am located, the best advertising is in the local newspaper under services. inexpencive and many calls.

    Hope this helps.  Mike

  9. word of mouth is better than any ads.
