How can i get out of being a bridesmaid one week before the wedding?

my friend asked me to be a bridesmaid, and i accepted. Now i found out that my cousin (who is like a sister to me) is having an engagement party the same day and time as my friend's wedding. I would much rather attend my cousin's engagement party, because she is family. But it is one week before my friend's wedding. How can I back out from being a bridesmaid?

Backing out is a terrible thing to do.  You made a commitment and now you need to stick with it.  Your cousin will understand, being that she is a soon to be bride.

that would be extremely rude for you to back out of your friend's wedding.

if your cousin wanted you there that bad she wouldn't have scheduled it at the same time/day as your friend's wedding.

That would be horribly, horribly rude.  There is no way to do so.  Why didn't your cousin, who is like a sister to you, ask if you were free the day she planned on having her engagement party?
