  1. Pretty much your only option is to die in Iraq. Dead soldiers get a waiver for the contract cancellation fee by allowing the customer to put the account in limbo until it expires, without getting any charges.

If you have Alltel, you can change your plan (as long as you stick with Alltel) without worrying about paying any fee. But if you hate your contract, then chances are, you probably don't have Alltel.

If the price is a lot better for the new contract you're looking at, do the math and see if canceling your contract early and jumping on the new one is cheaper than paying the current price for another 6mo.

  2. are you changing your network provider? if so cancel the direct debit and then tell them the phone is broke it no longer works so you are not paying for a phone you can't use. i did this with o2 when my youngest son dropped my phone in a mug of juice.

  3. Unfortunately, because you have entered into a contract, you need to forfill your obligations with that contract.  So what I would suggest is change your current contract to the cheapest possible deal, once that is done, keep paying it until it's finished, and get a new contract elsewhere.... or pay the remainder of the 6 months in full.  If a phone came with your contract you could always sell it, which will help towards the cost of the remaining six months!
