How can i get rid of a virus i have on my computer?

okay well it make my computer really really slow and i wanna get rid of it i cant even open up fire fox most of the time. i have a windows xp and i have a virus detector and it doesent take the virus out when it recognizes all the virus's or what ever i click remove all found threats and then it ops this thing that says its like 35 dollars to take it off and thats crazy is there a free way to take it off? also the thing is ms antivirus. i found another one on google its http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor-antivirus/?ref=google&gclid=CI6x1J6tqJUCFQIyGgodcw07jg and i was wondering is that free? and is it good? will my computer run faster if i download that and take the virus off? im not really good with these things on computers heh

this is the thrid time i answer this wow you need to run disk clean up it should take up to 4 hours then try your virus ware 1 more time if that does not work then get Avast. if not  take it to a shop it your last and best bet if the shop cant fix it or asks for more than 75$ then your find a new shop and don't pay. they cant sue if they did not fix it.

Don't download antivirus programs buy them or order them Norton or zonealarm are good, but try restoring your computer to an earlier time go to start then all programs, then accessories, then system tools and finally system restore, look for a date where your computer was working fine, good luck.

hmm the best way to get rid off virus is to do a manuall removal, but you need to know which files are infected.. I suggesting you to download a free scan to find those files and delete them. Use this page as a guide:
