i left a window open after burning part of dinner and these teeny tiny gnat things came right thru the screen like it wasn't there. now i have dozens of the filtering pests all over, they won't hold still long enuff to see and swat them but they love to fly right up into your face out of no where. how can i send these things to he!! without spraying poison all over everything.

p.s. i have tried the sticky pest strips hung from the ceiling and it hasn't caught one single gnat.

  1. Set out a bowl of apple cider vinegar with some dish soap.  They are attracted to the vinegar and the dish soap traps them.  It may take a few days to get them all, just keep renewing your "mixture of doom" and they will all be gone.

  2. I've come across this problem before myself, and I refuse to give in and use chemicals that are toxic to me and my family.  I have found, however, that if you get rid of any source of food for them (fruit, food in the trash can, garage disposal not run, etc.,) they go away within a day or two.  The trick is to make sure there is nothing for them to eat!

  3. Along with the first answer, sounds crazy, but I have them all around my house, and YES.. they love to fly in my face!

If I set out something sort of pungent (I suppose that's why vinegar would help?) they come swarming to it. I have found they dive bomb my red wine when I have some out. Literally, they will smell it from the other side of the house and bombard it. So, get some cheap red wine and just set out some cups throughout the house for a few hours. Same with grape juice.

Bug strips won't work, but beware! Unless you get them out soon, if you have house plants, they will set up shop in them and remain a member of the household over winter. Also, the ones in my house love the sink, so make sure you keep it clean also and periodically dump bleach down it.
