  1. you will need to begin scuffing away the rust in areas that have not been complete eroded by the rust. Use the 60-grit sandpaper to remove the rust, as well as the paint around the circumference of the rust damage. Make sure that you have nothing but metal surrounding the rust areas, not paint. Once the rust has been sanded smooth you will need to begin testing the area. Poke the rust areas to ensure that the rust hasn't caused the metal to weaken. If the metal is soft, or weak, this means that the rust is on the underside of the metal as well.

If the metal is weak, you will need find a professional to fix the compromised areas. . If it is just cosmetic, you will then want to use a  rust treatment spray.

Remember that if you do not remove all of the rust, the reactivation process will begin and you will have to fix the rust again

  2. Try a product like Naval Jelly or a Rust converter.  The Naval Jelly will dissolve the rust, and then you would rinse it with water and prime and paint.  The rust converter goes on white, and after a little while, chemically changes rust to a flat black primer.  Both types of products are great.  If you decide to dissolve the rust with naval jelly, but don't want to paint, you could apply some cold galvanizing compound, which will slow rust formation pretty well.  Any of these types of products can be found at most hardware or auto-parts stores.

  3. Your question is too vague...If you are trying to loosen rusty bolts/nuts use penetrating oil available in most auto stores. For best results spray on a day or two in advance then use a six point socket wrench with an section of pipe slipped over the handle for more leverage (don't try this with cheap tools).

If you are trying to remove rust from unassembled bolts a bench grinder with a wire wheel works great, or run a threading tap over the bolt to clean it up. For nuts you need a threading die.

If you are just trying to remove rust from steel in general you can use a phosphoric acid based rust remover available in most auto stores. A weaker version of this remedy is to soak parts in a jar of vinegar and aluminum foil.

P.S. don't use the acid solutions on hardened steel fasteners as it will weaken them.

  4. the best way to remove rivets or screws is to drill them out to the point where you can use a extractor

a oil like pb blaster and a few hours and some leverage will remove nuts

    goodluck

  5. wire brush or buffer, paint.
