  1. Fill out a personal profile at a scholarship database and it will generate a list of scholarships that you are personally eligible to apply for.  There are a wide variety of scholarships and contests out there - some for wacky or unusual things that you wouldn't think of.

  2. I would save your money just incase.  I would say take the SAT or/and the ACT see were you stand and go from there.  If want some very bad you can get it with hard work.

  3. Go to the local high school and ask the guidance secretary.  At my school, there was a rack with all of the applications for local scholarships and we could walk in and take whichever ones we wanted.  I'm sure some will say they are for graduates of the school, but you will be eligible for those that only require you to be a resident of your town, county, or state.

  4. The same way as anyone else - you apply.  You may need to provide a transcript and portfolio.  You can "beef" up your application if you've been active in civic activities and other clubs.  Volunteer work, combined with good grades and hard courses equals a good chance to receive a scholarship.

Also, if you know what you're going to study at college, find industry scholarships in that field.  Generally state and local associations for your intended career give out scholarships.  It's part of their philanthropic mission.

  5. Yes, it dose take a little more wore on your part but there are lots of scholarships that  a homeschooling will qualify for, I am in the proses of looking but I do have friends that are already planning this.

and there is duel enrollment for 11th and 12th graders in a community collage, it is free for homeschooling you just pay for books, but the details very from collage to collage. but the credits count for both high school and collage

  6. You can do it regular, by filling out applications or going to the college itself.

  7. Do you have a homeschool transcript, some letters of reference, and ACT and SAT score? Use those and apply for scholarships just like anyone else. Some organizations have small scholarships that are meant for local kids. Look for those. Every little bit helps and the small scholarships are often overlooked.

  8. You could maybe try all the Hallelujah Jeebus colleges or something.   Or ask if the armed forces have any good deals, they can get you scholarships.

  9. You would inquire as to whether homeschooled students are eligible for the scholarships and then complete the application process.

  10. Apply for them!

  11. Our state has a website that works like our old time school counselors...only better. (smile)

You may check to see if your state has a site similar to this:

    http://www.cfnc.org/

  12. Yes. Just look up the scholarship you'd like to apply for online, or call the company or organization providing the scholarship for information on homeschool requirements.

  13. The same way that anyone gets scholarships.

Most scholarship opportunities are open to homeschool students.

One of the very best opportunities (for anyone) is to take the PSAT which will put you in the running for the National Merit Scholarship and will attract the attention of colleges if you do well.

I list below some current scholarship opportunities that are open to homeschoolers.

  14. Unlike public schoolers, who have guidance counselors handing them the papers on a platter (if they are lucky), homeschoolers look for scholarships on their own.

Contact local businesses, walmart, toys r us, colleges etc. Find special interests groups, and ask them. For example, we belong to Sons of Norway, and they have scholarships for children of members. In each financial aid office there are applications for grants and such, which will help, and don't forget to apply for student work programs.
