  1. Whoever told you classes are a waste of time must not do well in school.  Actors you see on TV and in movies today still go to acting class and have acting coaches help them with their scenes.  You never stop taking classes, you never stop learning and it's extremely ignorant to say something like that.  Everyone working in the business today has natural talent.  Classes help to cultivate that.  You can have all the natural talent in the world but that doesn't mean you instinctively know where to look when you're on camera, or how to hit a mark, or how to read cue cards or what certain things mean in a script.  Those are just technical things but there is just so much more and you can't learn without going to class.  Ignore the fools who are obviously not working actors and find yourself a legit studio acting class.

Also, this is not necessarily a great time to start, just so you know.  Producers actually prefer actors 18 and older who look your age so they don't have to hire a set teacher and the actor can work longer hours.  Plenty of teens still get hired so that doesn't mean you have no shot, you just have to work harder since most kids your age in the business already have a long resume since they've been in doing this since they were toddlers.

    good luck,

  2. audition for a play

  3. Watch the best actors, learn from them, practice, audition somewhere. Eventually, with a sufficient amount of hard work, your 'battle scars' (so to speak) will reach its full fruitions.

  4. Do local plays. Get an agent. Go to comercial auditions, and as you get better, audition for bigger TV things, like a show or TV movie. Good luck!

  5. audition for a commercial

  6. take classes

  7. Your school plays are a start. Your area weekly newspaper is another. I remember the San Diego Reader (for example) would have in the classified section "auditions being held" listing what the play was and what type of people they were looking for to fill the roles.

If you go to your local community college or call them up(look them up on the net), and ask for the acting coach, you can pick their brains for the answers you seek. What to do for  a tryout. What type of music to select. What type of examples of roles to show for a screening. They would be better to direct you. Once you get to be a ham and graduate from school, you could make a career of it by going to an acting college/school.
