we kept two dogs from our first dog's litter. one of them is a very shy black puggle. he even runs away from children sometimes. he's fine with me, my mom, and usually my brother, but he's terrified of my father. he even asks scared when he sees my father's shoes next to his chair. sometimes he'll run away, and sometimes he'll stand three feet from my dad and just watch him. my dad's even tried giving him bits of meat and table scraps, but the puppy just stares at him. my father has never hurt him and the other puppy loves him. how can i get the puppy to warm up to my dad?

  1. Perhaps your dad looks big, and in the pup's eyes, he seems like a predator.  Thunderous voice, perhaps?

I think food is always the best solution.  Have your dad hold him and feed him, it should be helpful.

  2. If your dad is a big guy or has a big voice, the puppy might see him as threatening because of that, because size and noise level tell a dog that this is a dominant person. The puppy is shy so is submissive at the best of times. I think you should give this dog some training, and your dad should participate in it. It will help give the dog more confidence. Your dad should take the puppy for walks so the puppy learns to associate your dad with fun stuff.
