Question:

How can i get the green stuff off my paving?

I've been trying to sort out the Jungle in our back yard, and it's going great. However, all the paving is a slimey green with loads of moss.

I've got the moss off, and scrubbed the whole thing with a broom, hot water, washing up liquid and star drops. However, it still looks green.

Anybody got any ideas how to make it look better?

  1. Try using a product called physan20 - it can be purchased from an orchid supply store.  This will kill algae, mold, mosses, etc. as well as killing bacteria and viruses!!  Good luck and happy Gardening!!

  2. pressure washer.if your broke than drain unblocker or patio cleaner, wait 15 mins, pour lots of water on surface and stiff broom. The acid in the cleaner will soften the algae and it will come off with much less effort

  3. Hire, borrow or buy a power washer, that will do it in a few minutes

  4. You need a power washer to get it off really well, then brush it down with hot water and sugar soap to keep it from returning

  5. My yard is very jungly also.  When I clean the driveway, I bleach the moldy spots by dipping a paint roller (on a long poll) into a container of bleach water.  I roll on the bleach and let it sit for a few minutes.  Then I use the pressure cleaner to clean it.

It does the trick, but the driveway starts looking bad again in no time!  I think it's just part of living in the woods.

    Good luck!!!

  6. As a brick paving contractor I'm always being asked this question.    Try this:

    1. Buy granulated pool chlorine from a hardware or department store (2 litres for 50m2 of paving)

    2. Wearing rubber gloves sprinkle the pellets evenly over the paving so that each pellet is no more than 1 cm from another.

    3. Gently mist the covered area with water being careful not to let the water run. A few quick passes of the hose should do.

    4. Wait 2 hours and your pavers will look brand new. Hose off the milky surface. The byproduct of the chlorine reaction with the mould and moss will be mostly salt and will not harm plants along the paving edge.

Because the chlorine soaks into the pavers all mould, slime, moss, grass and even spores will be killed. This method works much better than just liquid bleach alone.

  7. Best thing to use is a jet wash. Scrubbin will barely touch it. If you can't get hold of a jet wash then go to something lke homebase or your local gardening centre as they should stock some chemical which will soften up the green slimey thing on your paving.

  8. I use a patio stone cleaner     But a pressure washer is probably better than a broom   Might need a weak acid too

  9. My entire back garden is slabbed but it's notorious for going green and gunky.

I've tried everything from bleach to shop bought "proper" patio cleaners but the best thing I tried is definitely jeyes fluid.

Mix it with water in a plastic bucket, slosh it all over the paved areas (I used a sweeping brush and half slopped, half brushed it on) leave for twenty minutes then go over it all with clean water and a yard brush or stiff sweeping brush.  Didn't even take too much effort. Just mind and rinse it really well afterwards.

Works a treat so it does!

  10. a strong solution of household bleach and water. scrubit around with a broom and let it sit awhile. then a scrub and a rinse with clear water. But let the bleach sit on it awhile and burn thru the roots of the moss.

You usually get it in areas of little or no sunshine..

If its on the dirt then spread granulated or powdered limestone on the gound to ''sweeten'' the acid in the soil.

  11. Jeyes Fluid from any B&Q or Homebase.  Water it on and it will kill the algae and other green stuff.
