How can i get to be a race car driver?

Question

Pretty simple question. I'm 20 years old and i really want to turn dream into reality by racing cars. Could anyone help me out and tell me how to get into the sport? It seems most are born into it through families, but i wasn't that lucky. Thanks!

like all high profile jobs, you need to go to scool to learn to be a race car driver, once you pass the test, then they will put you in a car and you are taught how,when and if you can handle the job of driveing 175mph plus and not get all killed around you, go to a race shop, help do chores, learn from the ground up, if they see that you have some talent. they will help you.i started out that way in drag raceing, was a golpher ,go for this and that ,sweep the floor, clean these parts, go for  parts,go for lunch, but i loved it , sonny h,

I'd suggest you go to a local kart race and get a pit pass so you can go back and talk to some of the karters. Most people are very helpful and friendly in this sport and would be more than happy to help you get started. It's an absolute blast and generally cheaper than stock car racing.

You don't have to be born into it, you just need the desire, a little bit of money and talent. All the stars start out in karts. Karts can out-handle many (probably most) sports cars and are very cheap. Just do some research and look and see if there is a track near by. The kart shouldn't be too hard to come by. Some people enjoy karting so much that they never move "up" into cars. I think you'd enjoy it, I started when I was 7, but it's never to late to start. Best of luck!
