there will be me, my husband and our almost 14 months old. we will be staying at grand sunset which is in the hotel zone i guess, we will rent a car too. so should we drive the car all the way to the port close to cancun and then take the ferry, or skip the car for that day, take the bus to cancun then another bus to the port then take the ferry. i found tours but they offer food on teh catamaran, we actually want food at isla, fresh seafood. so what do you suggest knowing that we have a little toddler? thanks a lot.

tips are welcome.

  1. a fairy boat from downtown Cancun

  2. 1.  I agree, do not rent a car.  The bus system is incredibly cheap and believe it or not very safe.

    2.  Go to www.cancuncare.com and find the best route to Isla Mujeres. (Island of the fat women.)

    3.  DO take a stroller.  If you go to the malls shopping etc. it will be a God send.

    4.  Do take plenty of bugspray, suntan lotion, and a bottle of cranberry juice especially if you are going on tours to Tulum...etc.  Cranberry juice for those kidney/bladder infections that happen often.

  3. www.granpuerto.com.mx

    Have fun!

  4. Why would you rent a car when you can go anywhere, safely and inexpensively either by bus or by taxi? As to the food question, couldn't you all just eat somewhere on the Island and take some snacks along in your bag just in case someone gets hungry while on the "Cat".... What kind of tips are you looking for? Specifically?

If you or your husband want to email me I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you might have. In the past I've lived, worked and traveled extensively in that area.

  5. I agree - you probably don't need the rental car.

We only had to take one bus from our hotel (Riu Cancun) to the port for the ferry.  It was quick, easy, and cheap.

From there, you'll just take the ferry boat across.  It takes about 45-60 min to cross to the island, and it's a pleasant trip.
