I'm trying to get to the grafenwoehr army base from frankfurt international airport. I want to take the DB German Rail, but want to know if i should put in frankfurt international airport (what to type in) to vilseck germany- or to the grafenwoehr army base- which is where my hotel is. And i know i will have to get a cab from the train to the base, and i will have to get euros for that....but everything else i'm clueless on, and i am going to call the hotel tomorrow to see i leave in two weeks, but i wanted to see if anyone else knew something in case they tell me differently

  1. Frankfurt flughafen fernbf

    Frankfurt flughafen terminal 1

    Frankfurt flughafen regionalbf

    Frankfurt (M)flughafen

is all the same. The difference between fernbf and regionalbf is the level the trains leave from. See:

As you have already been told, walk up to the German rail (DB) ticket counter at Frankfurt airport after your arrival, buy your tickets there and everything will be fine. The ticket counter is near the train station. The staff speaks English, they will explain everything step-by-step and will print you a travel plan. They accept credit cards, but nevertheless I recommend taking some cash (EUR) with you - just in case.

BTW, when using the bahn site, always leave the first selection unless you know better. Vilseck, Suedlager Grafenwoehr is a bus stop, to get there you need to get to Vilseck (the train station and the first selection) and then take the bus. I don't know whether it is the right stop, best ask somebody stationed at the base.

It is also a good idea to travel light, it makes using rail and bus much easier.

  2. input is: Flughafen Terminal 1, Frankfurt am Main

to Grafenwöhr Bahnhof or you can type in Vilseck Bahnhof just where you wanna go.

If you go to Vilseck directly its much shorter, step over in Nürnberg (about 30minutes time) and than continue to Vilseck

There is no difference between Frankfurt Regional Bahnhof and Frankfurt Fernbahnhof because they are both at Terminal 1 at the airport only differnce is that regional trains leave on platform 2 and 3 and fast/far trains on platform 4.

Frankfurt has also a city station and on top of it we have 2 Frankfurts in Germany, no.1 is the one you fly to from the US and the other one is in the far east at the border to Poland.

anyway, when you buy the ticket at the BAHN counter in the aitport Frankfurt they can tell you exactly where to go, which platform, what time and where to step over or wait. They print out a detailed travel plan for you. Take it easy, you will get there no problem.

@I've just found out, tell them at the DB counter in Frankfurt that you wanna go to the US Army Hotel in Grafenwöhr, they know it from 100000 times before.
