  1. one way or another you will have to get and install an wireless network adapter

    Your laptop already has one

Any brand o a g wireless network adapter will do

Best to buy a new one - it will have the correct instal disk ( drivers)

Ask if it will install on your computer - very few of the older ones will work with vista

You would have to buy a newer / more expensive model

The wireless network adapters for you come in two models

    - a built in one ( PCI) if you are handy

    - easier is  a usb version

you will not have to open the case and install

having some type of usb extension as well works out for better speed .  You can take the usb higher and away for better reception

Any brand of usb network adapter will do

  2. Just connect to the wireless network with your new computer. It's the same process as when you connected your upstairs computer and laptop.

If you do not have a wireless card in your new computer, you must purchase one.  Alternatively, you could purchase a USB wireless adapter.  The latter choice is probably less expensive.

  3. If your computers are brand new they should have wireless technology to find out if you do go to my computer > Network and internet Connections and should see an option called Set up a wireless connection and then run through that wizard.  However, my desktops don't come with a wireless connection and so you have to buy a wireless card or a another router which would be connected to that main router that has the modem connected to it.
