How can i get work as a stand up comedian?

I'm just starting to do stand up and i just wanted to know if ne one new good ways to get expience and work. i have a act this coming sunday in boston at a open mike night but just want help with getting other gigs

The not so obvious answer is learn what makes people laugh. There is some study and reading involved. In comedy club - bootcamp - you might struggle with delivering lines but the important lesson is:  what makes people laugh.  The club owner may not care what makes him/her laugh but:  what makes people laugh.

I don't know how old you are, but you might consider getting the word out to all the organizations you belong to.  If your parents belong to some, have them do the same.  You can print up fliers fairly cheaply and post those on community bill boards.  Just keep doing your act, when ever and where ever.  This will make you more polished and accustomed to performance.  Open mike nights are a good way to get noticed and even work.  Ask the other performers if they can recommend any thing.

You can also check out books written by comedians to see what they did to get discovered.

If your good word will get around.....but I'd advise you to most importantly get an agent, he/she is the one who will get you the jobs....most people who try to do it on their own don't get very far.....good luck to you !!!!!!!!
