So heres the deal. My now EXgirlfriend family planned a cruise for the entire family and i was invited. I paid the travel agency a total of $750 (including $250 non refundable deposit) I also gave my girlfriends parents $150 for the plane ticket to get to the port. After we broke up, I said that i was still going on the cruise because i was NOT eating the $250 deposit because of us breaking up, and unless i got my FULL $900 back i was 100% going on this cruise, wanted or not. Well i get a text from my ex saying that the cruise line was refunding me $500 and her parents were giving me $150 cash for the plane ticket. I want to know that because i was NOT the one who cancelled myself, it was her cousin who works for the travel agency cancelled me without my permission. Is there anyway i can go about getting my $250 deposit back legally? What should i do? Contact the travel agency or what? I seen as of yesterday the travel agency credited me $500 back to my card, I have yet to see the $150

  1. Who booked with the travel agency?  If you guys booked under her name, than the ex absolutely has the right to cancel.  HOWEVER if you booked yours and she booked hers, she has no legal right to cancel for you and the travel agency is in serious breach.  I'd call them and speak to the owner/super not the cousin and ask what your options are.  More than likely as the deposit is non-refundable and you knew this ahead of time, they will merely allow you to repay the $500 and go on the booked cruise.  That is what they are responsible for as that is what they did illegally without your knowledge (assuming it was in your name and not ex).

I don't think it will be possible to get the $250 back as it was non refundable--though it would be credited back should you contact the travel agency.  However depending on who broke up with who, you may have a small claims case in which she would be liable for it.  But that's a lot of hassle.

The $150 you should get back soon and perhaps give your ex a date.  If you don't have the $150 back by this date, you will file a lawsuit for the $400 you are out.

  2. how soon is the cruise?  usually deposits are refunded if you cancel so many days before you sail.  I would look into it.  what cruise ship are you sailing?  there are refund policies that are in effect before you sail.

  3. CONTACT THE CRUISE LINE PERSONALLY, THE ONLY DRAW BACH IS THE PRICE QUOTED IS BASED ON DOUBLE OCCUPANCY FOR THE STATEROOM. SO I SUGGEST THAT YOU FIND YOURSELF ANOTHER ROOMMATE LOCATE  ANOTHER TRAVEL AGENT AND GET THE BALL ROLLING. THERE ARE AT TIMES SOMEONE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER GUEST TO SHARE THE STATEROOM WITH. BUT DEFINITELY COMPLAIN TO THE TRAVEL AGENCY FOR NOT CONTACTIMG YOU PERSONALLY . SHOULD YOU NEED ANY HELP CONTACT ME.

  4. That sounds a dreadful predicament but it looks like you'll have to rely on the goodness of the family to refund the air ticket. I don't think you'd be entitled to the refund on the deposit
