i'm a junior in highschool. my "sport" is actually soccer but i miss playing volleyball so much. I absolutely love the sport. I use to play as a middle schooler, but when i broke my arm i fell way behind, and when i tried playing in 9th grade, the coach rated us, and i was dead last as far as skills went. I was too embarrassed to take up the sport in 10th and 11th grade, and stuck with soccer which i am pretty good at. But for 12th grade, i want to do something different, and surprise everyone of how good i can really be at my favorite sport. I have until the end of August. What will it take to be a varsity level player by fall time?

  1. first you should be in good physical shape.  Then you should try and find the best camps to go to like the Penn State girls camp.  Also at the girls qualifiers there's something called High Performance tryouts and all of the best volleyball players from around the country go there and you do different drills and fitness things.

  2. Practice, practice, practice. That is key. You need to find someone who will be as committed as you to help you and that would be great. You have pretty much time to improve, so I don't think it should be anything impossible, although I do not know where you skill level is at right now. But, join a team over the summer, find somewhere that has open gym, do anything you can that gets you out there and playing. You can also do some things by yourself too. Take a volleyball and just keep passing, then switch to setting. Work on your verticle because that's very important as well. Just PRACTICE! If you have any further questions or need some pointers on a specific area, just ask me! GOOD LUCK!

  3. find one of the girls who has been playing since 8th or 9th grade and is still playing an PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!!

  4. find a club team that excepts "practice players" it costs a lot less than actually playing club, but you'll be allowed to practice. then talk to the coach about how you can get better

  5. find someone who is willing to help you and have them help you every week for liek 3 days. If you keep practicing at it i know you will get better...that is what i did and now i am good.

  6. I would start playing with a club team. Or maybe you could find someone to give you private lessons.

  7. You need to sign up with a good club (not so easy though), or some good clinics.

Go to open volleyball gyms and see whether you can find someone who is willing to help you get better.

There are several boys in my open gym that we really watched them growing up during the past several years. We took them into our team when they didn't know how to do a good pass, now we need their favor to be on our team 'cause they can do everything to win... you should have started playing open volleyball when you were in 9th and failed the "rating".

  8. club teams, open gyms, and lots of camps over the summer

  9. Just go for it !!! Don't worry about other people. You will obviously be behind but just have fun and try your best!!!
