Slowly forcing air out of your lungs (through your nose; just like you're normally exhaling) will keep water from going up into your nose and make it so that you don't have to hold your nose with your fingers.

water doesn't usually go up my nose when i'm swimming. you can get goggles that have this little plastic thing that pinches the top of your nose and water won't go in there

unless you jump in at some strange angle, water wont go up nose (air in there keeps it out...so the nose-holding is unnecessary)

put a scuba mask on it covers your nose and your eyes

Just buy a pair of nose plugs.  They may look a bit silly above water, but underneath, nobody will see you.  They can be found in any summer or pool section of a discount store for about $1.  They pinch your nose so you don't have to use your hands.

The other alternative would be a diving mask which covers your eyes and nose, allowing them both to remain free of water.

When I swim underwater, I exhale through my nose. Whatever you do, do not inhale through your nose under water, LOL
