I am 13 and only 5' 9"! Last year i played middle and let's just say i didn't suck at it, this year some girl with no experience gets to play middle just because she is 5' 11"? My coach told me i was just a lil bit short? with my verticle i can get just as tall as her if not taller? what do i do? I am on a A team and we are very competitve. I know i would be more useful to the team playing middle but my coach doesnt agree?! what do i do?

  1. If a short 3 ft tall person touches 11ft, and a 6ft person touches 11ft, it is not the same.

The short person takes more time to jump up to that hight, when a tall person with a worse vertical gets up to full height more quickly.

That's why people like tall middles. They can get up and down fast.

  2. It shouldnt matter about your height.

Just how far your hands can go over the net basicly.

JUMP ROPE everyday and it will help your vertical jump ginormously!

  3. Learn to dominate from the right side, and continue to be big in the block. A few coaches go with height first for MB, but 5'9" at 13 is still pretty tall. If you make the effort to be really effective at RS on offense (if you are right handed, wait for the set to cross in front of you and hit line - you'll really confuse the defense!) and be quick and consistent to get to the block. Most of the time, the middle and the RS get to block the other team's outside hitter. Shut her down from your new home! You can do this -

    good luck!

  4. I agree with vballa19.

Go with what your team needs, in order to "be more useful to the team". Pay respect to your coach's decision, and try your best in your new position.

You could be good in both RS and MH/MB, and it could be a good reason for a college team to draft you four years down the road.
