How can i hardwire a Infrared Extender?

Question

i have a dish network satellite receiver across the hall from my tv (there in seperate rooms). i want to get a long wire, put a led light on one end, and a sensor on the other. i have the led, i have the sensor, i actually have 2 of each so i can make 1 mistake. the sensor has 3 prongs, and the led has 2 prongs, so how do i go about wiring them together? i know one of the sensors prongs is for signal, but where do i connect that to? i dont understand.
