  1. There isn't a specific way to set off a night terror.  Some people naturally have them, others don't.  My three-year-old nephew has them and they are absolutely one of the worst things in the world.  He wakes up screaming, shaking, and cannot remember who he is or where he is.  He punches and hits whoever comes near him before he regains his memory because he thinks everyone who comes near him is trying to hurt him.  Basically he thinks he has seconds left to live.

I really don't think it's a game to be experimented with

  2. Why the heck would you want to have one?!

  3. I used to have night terrors.  The best answer I can provide is to describe my mindset during that time period.  I was 5.  I had a vivid and chaotic imagination which consumed my thoughts most of the time.  I was always inventing stories I could think about or act out.  Most of these stories involved death, dying, fighting, or romance.  Dying was a big fear of mine.  I was very afraid that I would love my mother or die myself as I did not fully understand the concept and the degree of control I had over it.  I played video games on nes and snes.  The lava in Mario boss levels was often included in my dreams, as well as monsters from other games.  I did not have other kids to play with except my two year old brother.  My mother was very sick and bedridden most of the time.

So if you can create a situation where your thoughts are partially dealing with mortal fear and partly with imaginary situations, then add instability due to your primary caregiver being sick, topped with lonliness... that is the best bet I can see for having a night terror.

I only had night terrors for about a year and they went away around the time I accepted the idea of death.  You will probably have to enter a state of delusional fantasy, sleep and food deprivation or something like that to create night terrors.

Here are some known causes from wiki

In addition to night terrors, some adult night terror sufferers have many of the characteristics of abused and depressed individuals including inhibition of aggression,[2] self-directed anger,[2] passivity,[3] anxiety, impaired memory,[4], and the ability to ignore pain.[5]

    Watch the movie "The Machinist".
