Things you can do NOW, when you are NOT a very rich person:

You can write your government representatives and tell them you believe that aid to African children is a priority.

You can link your online profiles at MySpace and FaceBook and elsewhere to organizations that work to improve the lives of African children, which may encourage others who *do* have money to donate.

You can volunteer for organizations that are focused on helping children in Africa.

You can join with the NGOS that are giving help to the African children.Their are many just go and search for the right one and start giving.
