  1. make sure to pay close attention to it for the next couple of days. since it was wrapped for to long that may be the cause of the mold. make sure to check the soil everyday to insure that it is getting properly watered, sunflowers love water so check at least twice a day if its really hot outside. If you are still having problems with it, it may need a larger pot. But the likely problem is that its just thirsty and needs to be in the sun. Make sure it has proper drainage because you can rot the roots with overwatering if the plant cannot drain. When your sunflower gets taller you may have to support the head of the plant so that it doesn't get top heavy and tip the pot over. With adequate watering, proper drainage, and  sunlight I'm thinking your sunflower will be fine.
