My teacher had recently bought 2 baby bearded dragons and housed them in a averaged sized tank for the class and everything is set up. The problem is nobody is in school during the weekends. We were surprised to find that one of the dragons had a good portion of its tail bitten off. Next monday more of its tail was chewed off. The one getting its tail chewed off is always doing its arm waving from time to time and recently we've noticed that both of them are getting their tails bitten. What can we do to prevent this especially during the weekend? What is a good amount of food to feed to them daily? Thanks.

  1. Juvinille Beardies have to have a constant suply of food. PIn heads, Wax worms... Veggies. I wouldn't keep them there over the weekend. MAYBE if it was an adult, but that's still to long.

  2. wow.. ok.. kelsey has some right answers but is totally wierd.

its ok to buy more than one bearded dragon.. what i would do is have them sexed. Two males are bad and fight, but two females or one male and one female are ok.. first do that.

if both are male, either keep a good watch on them, or buy another tank for them to keep them seperated... 40 gallons for both or even just one.

also, try... TRY to get them on some hard pellet food. I use zilla bearded dragon food. I just got mine on it, and she loves it. When there hungry, they'll eat that.

I reccomend before she leaves on friday, give a ton of veggies that they like, mine loves romaine lettuce, carrots and strawberries. Make a big salad.

Put in about 20 crickets, and about 10 mealworms.

kinda over feed, to see how they do.

beardies can be unattended to for a weekend. I have done it, because i have a life to.

If nothing works, sell them, or something.. I'll take one!.. only if it comes to that

  3. Arm waving is used to show submission. A small bearded dragon responds with arm waving when confronted with a larger, more dominant bearded dragon. Females also arm wave to avoid aggression from males, especially if the male is head bobbing (does the other one do this?) They need to be separated!!! because they obviously fight eachother, and one day will most likely mate and then you will have lots of bearded dragons in your class that no one will be able to care for two days out of the week.

I have no idea why your teacher would buy two bearded dragons, obviously she knows nothing about the species and just bought them as a decoration for the classroom. Tell her to buy a book about them since she is a teacher. (well, don't be rude. tell her that a girl on the internet told her to buy a book and stop buying living creatures as accessories) you can also tell her that i think it is horrible to buy pets that you ignore two days out of the week. she took on the responsibility of pets so she should take them home on the weekends. Feel free to print this out and give it to your teacher. she sounds pretty ignorant so i wouldn't listen to a lot of the things she tells you.

  4. they are probably two males, i would suggest to separate them in different tanks.they also get very territorial.
