  1. Going green is easy, there are so many great resources about the subject. My personal favorite is "The Green Book" which has parts of its book online as well at www.readthegreenbook.com.

As I have been striving to "Go Green" I realize it is like stepping back in time without getting rid of my modern conveniences. I'm doing many things I learned as a child, like line drying my clothes, sweeping instead of vacuuming, opening the windows in the morning to catch the cool breeze, only buying what I need instead of everything that looks cool, growing some of my own food, and canning what I can't eat now.

To me "going Green" is a frame of mind. Do what fits your lifestyle and do the easy things first, it is a process and like dieting if you go to radical to soon, you are more likely to go back to bad habits. I also believe there are good, better, best choices in most things. If you aren't ready to start a home garden, then try finding a farmers market, until you locate one look for produce grown as close to home as possible and go organic when available.

Many people think "going green" is expensive, I disagree. Some changes may take an initial investment, but they usually have a short payoff time. Things like weatherstiping and insulation cost, but the energy savings will add up quickly. You may need to purchase reusable bags, but most stores give you a 5 or 10 cent credit, so you are paid back within a few months.

My top tips are make your home more energy efficient, that also means using natural light, cooling and heating.

Reduce your packaging, if you eat more fresh food you will generally reduce packaging, it's the same thing they tell dieters, shop the perimiter, that is where all the meat, dairy and produce are located. Only buy what you will use, many Americans throw away a lot of unused food. Buy in bulk, that doesn't just mean large packages, but that area with the bins that you buy only what you plan on using.

Replace disposable items with durable items, if you eat outside often and use disposable paper or plastic plates, it is a wise investment to purchase a set of reusable plastic plates. Replace disposable razors, diapers and cleaning products like swiffer. Avoid bottled water, get a home filter like Pur or Brita.

Recycle, www.earth911.org will help you locate the nearest recycle center. I try to only purchase plastics that are #1 or #2, they are more easily recycled. I also buy recycled products when available, that includes paper towels, napkings, toilet paper, tissue, school/office supplies and clothing.

Detox your cleaning, vinegar and baking soda clean almost anything, they can even losen a hair clog. Seventh Generation and Method are a couple mainstream brands that are very earth friendly.

Just start small and build from there, don't get overwhelmed.

  2. carpooling

    walk

    ride ur bike

by doing da above u will help lessen carbon emissions

    btw there's more at

    http://green.yahoo.com/

good luck on helping to save the earth

  3. 1. Recycle everything: newspapers, bottles and cans, aluminum foil, etc.

    2. Turn off the lights, TV, or other electrical appliances when you are out of a room.

    3. ride your bike or walk if its nice out and you have time to

    4. Put up birdfeeders, birdhouses, and birdbaths.

    5. Don't litter our roads and highways. Save trash and dispose of it at a rest stop.

    6. Avoid buying food or household products in plastic or styrofoam containers whenever possible. (They cannot be recycled and do not break down in the environment.)

    7. take quick showers

    8. Use an electric lawn- mower instead of a gas-powered one.

    9. Copy and print on both sides of paper.

    10. if you are looking to buy a car be sure to consider gas mileage, not only is a gas guzzeling car bad for the enviroment, but gas prices are high and by not buying alot of gas you can save lots of money

    11. reuse plastic bags if you must use them

    12. Use only organic fertilizers

    13. recycle

    14. when its bright out open the blines insted of turning the light on

    15. Use recycled paper.

    16. Carpool if you are not able to walk

    17. Don't use electrical appliances when you can easily do by hand, such as opening cans.

    18. Store food in re-usable containers.

    19. when shopping put all of the items in one bag insted of getting a seperate bag from every store

    20. Review labels of household cleaners you use. Consider alternatives like baking soda, scouring pads, water or a little more elbow grease.

    21. When no good alternatives exist to a toxic item, find the least amount required for an effective, sanitary result.

    22. Don't leave the tap running

    23. Wash at lower temperatures

    24. Minimise dry-cleaning

  4. Read the Public Notice portion of your newspaper at least once per week, daily is better.

Look for Environmental Permits, Environmental Meetings, Rule Making or Rule Changing. There is always a place for citizen public comment and inclusion.

Find out how much pollution an Environmental Permit allows in an area. If it is very high, this is a time to spread the word and ask others who believe like you to speak up.

As a group, ask businesses to use cleaner resources and work on applying renewable technology to their plants.

  5. youve already tackled the first two! :)

    1-recycle everything possible

    2-buy energy saving lightbulbs

    3-buy recycled fabrics

4-at the grocery store buy the re-usable bags instead of plastic or paper

5- if you do get plactic or paper bagc recycle them

6-get a battery powered car it may cost more upfront but itll save you money and the enviroment in the long run

7-dont leave lamps heaters nightlights ect. on during the night unless its mandatory

8-if you see a whole bunch of trash pick it up (you can always wash your hands)

    9-plant trees

10-unplug all electrical appliances (NOT YOUR FRIDGE) when they are not in use

and the biggest thing of all commit to doing all these things for your life time to help improve the enviroment and to live cleaner happier and healthier lives hope i helped!!  :)

  6. Well lets say you have to go somewhere instead of asking your mom to drive you or you drive try takking a bike.

  7. Lots of good answers before mine, but I have a big one that I hope will work for you: try to find a car that runs on natural gas (methane), and you'll save a bundle and it's good for the environment at the same time. Make sure there's a place to fill it up, though, because not every state has figured this out yet. I'll list sources below so you can check into it for yourself. I have 2 cars that run on natural gas, and they're great! I can fill up in Utah for $10 (85 cents a gallon). I wish these cars were available to everyone, because I think they're a great solution to the oil problem. Good luck in being green!

  8. There are many things you can do to live green and some are very inexpensive too!

~Of course, keep recycling everything you can!

~Use reusable batteries or recycle dead batteries properly

    ~Use reusable shopping bags

~If you have plastic shopping bags, use them instead of just tossing them. They can be used to pick up dog poo, line small trash cans, ect.

~Try not to use paper napkins or paper towel as much as possible. Instead use cloth napkins that can be washed.

~Try to use fewer paper plates and more washable ones.

    ~Take shorter showers

    ~Turn off lights whenever possible

~Try to by more organic foods and local foods (for example, at a farmer's market)

    ~Use regular silverware, not plastic

~Use eco friendly products in replace of regular dish washing liquids, house cleaners, ect.

~On a nice day, turn off the air/heat and open some windows. You save of the cost, get a nice fresh breeze, and help the environment.

~Plant trees around your house to shade and save on using more air conditioning

~Buy one stainless steal, reusable, water bottle instead of using regular plastic ones and then getting rid of them. This one you can clean and use over and over again!

~Walk or ride a bike wherever possible

    ~Carpool if possible

These are just a few ideas I can think of, but you can also go to www.gogreen.com for some more tips. Good luck :)

  9. ♥ Pick up litter

♥ Tell everyone else to do it too

    ♥ Plant a tree

♥ Walk if you can instead of drive

♥ Save water. (Like, don't run water while brushing your teeth, Take a shower and not a bath, ect)

  10. All it is is a set of simple choices. You can do all of the things in these other lists, but you have to know what you're choosing and why. For example, when grocery shopping, think: Which is greener; bringing my own bags or using plastic ones. Or if faced with a decision, think about your choices before you pick. Fluorescent or incandescant? Bottled or tap? Bike or drive? Carpool or drive alone? On or off? Running or off? Am I using this electronic equipment right now? Can it be turned off? Which of these cleaning products is better for the environment? Some products may be more expensive now, but will sure save you lots of money in the long run, because your energy bills and electric bills we be cut, and They will most likely last you longer than the average product. Can this be recycled or not? Just think...
