How can i hide my I.P address in windows XP?

Question

Im using Virgin media broadband and ive recently discovered that some users can use your i.p address to hack into your computer, find out where you live and steal some of your bandwidth(free surfing).

I wish to know if there is a way to make my surfing so my i.p is hidden- perhaps some settings in xp i can adjust or a freeware?

You don't need to hide your IP Address all you need is 3 decent programs which are 1 Anti-virus program 1 Anti-spyware program and a decent firewall. Thats all i have and my computer is invisible when i surf the net because it doesn't send any packets back or respond to port scans thanks to a decent free firewall. Its fairly obvious what the other 2 programs are for..

Well you answered your own question then.....obviously you can't hide your IP. I have tested my pc using the shields up test and the results were that my computer was completely invisible.

First myth > If you have a decent firewall and security you can't get hacked

Second myth > No one can find your address from an IP.

Third myth > If you have a direct connection to your modem no one can use your service. If you have WiFi the obvious thing to do is password protect it. Also unless they are within about 25 feet of your house they couldn't access it anyway.

Stop worrying about it and forget it or you will make yourself paranoid and end up giving yourself nightmares!
