im 15, a 24 handicapper (c**p i know), i play on the local 9 hole parkland course that is very unforgiving if you cant hit the ball straight, i can hit my drives perfectly and my chipping and putting are fine, but every time i hit an iron shot it usually shanks or hooks, and this problem is keeping me from seriously lowering my handicap, i play with ben sayers m7 clubs btw. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  1. You most likely are trying to swing with your hands too much.  The swing should be made with your shoulders, not your hands. Try pulling through the swing with your front shoulder and make sure all of your weight get transferred to your front foot.

  2. To hit the irons straight you need to make sure that the clubface is square to the target line at impact.  Hooking is the result of a closed clubface at impact.  Without seeing you swing I have no idea how to help you be more consistent with the irons.

  3. maybe it's your clubs. just hit the driving range and tweak your swing till the desired result occurs.

  4. A good thing to do to fix that is to swing slower so your body is in sync and also let your body move the club and just your arms and your wrists

  5. try opening up your stance. it worked for me.

when i line up my shot i make sure my right foot (im a rightey) is up and my left foot is a little more back. focus on almost having your chest point at the target.

also follow thru is key. make sure when you are hitting the ball your club continues until it wraps around your neck. if you arent following through you will be hitting the ball out to the right a lot. this will also help with your loft.
