I have the most recent HDDVR upgraded box. Direct told me i needed this box to get all the HD channels and the upcoming ones. My dad has the old box and it has an input for an antenna but the new ones dont. All there is is HDMI which i am using going to my TV. There is an optical out, S video out, looks like RC outs and a USB port. Can someone tell me If there is a way I can run my antenna to the reciever instead of going directly to the TV? I know that means i will have to switch back and forth with remotes and i want be able to record the locals. Help!!!!!

  1. The latest (black) H21 receivers deleted the antenna input.  DirecTV wants you to pay them the $5/month to get the local channels!

What you can do is hook up an HD antenna directly to the antenna input of your HDTV, bypassing the DirecTV DVR.  You'll be able to watch the local channels, but not record them.  Or you can buy an HD TiVo to record them, but that's a pricey solution, compared to $60/year to DirecTV for the channels.

    Good luck!

  2. Sorry to inform you of this but you will have to connect the antenna lead direct to your TV. When my DirecTV model HR20-700 quit I had to replace it with a HR21-200, which is the same black receiver that you have. consider yourself lucky to have bought a tv instead of a monitor like I did. I have no other choice but to now wait until the rest of my locals come out in HD.
