  1. play thumbwar or make patterns with big beads and a shoelace, play spill the buttons and spill a bunch of buttons and make him pick up a button one at a time and sort them into piles, encorage him to draw a picture or color inside the lines, also writing a letter to a friend of his whold help and will teach him how to address an envelope at the same time,

get finger puppets and make up a story  before he goes to sleep.

  2. my son is behind in fine motor skills and we have been working with him for a while now. lots of practice with toys that you bead and lace are great.  Just not the tiny beads or he will get discouraged if it is too hard for him. The game "kerplunk" is good b/c you have to put the little sticks in the holes. puzzles, putting rocks in a small jar, We also cut up different colored pipe cleaners and count and drop them in the small hole in an old coffee creamer container.

let him keep practicing with scissors.

We have found that the toys help more than actually trying to make him button his shirt b/c he gets discouraged. (for my son anyway-your son may be different)

Here are a few links of some toys my son is using or some ideas

(there are other motor skills toys on this same website)

  3. My son has been working on his fine motor skiils in school (spercial ed and occupational therapy).  They had him write with a short, weighted pencil (a pencil you use at minigolf with a small weight/magnet attached where the eraser would be) that also had a grip on it.  They also had him write on a slanted board (you can use a 3 or 4 inch 3 ring binder turned sideways).

For drawing, thin markers, and/or thin crayons snaped in half.

Also lacing beads, lacing cards, etc.

Another thing is playdoh, silly putty, clay, etc.  Hide small things such as marbles in it and have him dig around in it to find them.

  4. Teach him needle point.

  5. I hate to say this, but video games (in moderation) do work for that.

  6. Just encourage him to do things for himself (button his clothing, open and close jars, etc) so that he can develop those skills. While it can be much easier to do things for a child in an area they struggle in, it is very beneficial to step back and let them work through it. Make sure he is involved in various activities around the house, provide him with art supplies to develop that way, blocks/puzzles/etc that are "self correcting" (blocks only fit in a certain hole). He'll get there!

  7. Wait till he is 12 since some bones in his wrists dont form until then, they all grow into it eventually.

  8. change his oil every 3 thousand steps haha hi honey..see time no long

  9. lots of pratice. but you have to make it fun

  10. video games

  11. drawing, cutting paper, colering,

  12. Beading, cutting, anything that he pretty much just uses his hands for.

  13. Watering plants with water spritzer bottles, painting eyedroppers, rolling & cutting playdough, Picking out small objects hidden in clay (not playdough), scooping sand, beans or any other material with his hand (builds muscles in the palm of the hand), clipping or hanging things up with clothespins.

Has he been evaluated by an occupational therapist?

  14. LEGO

It's fun, requires them to manipulate small pieces and they don't even know they're doing some 'therapy'.

  15. PLAYDOUGH!

Its fun, and cheap if you make it rather then buy it.

    Cutting.

Have him glue onto a paper small peices that he has to grasp.

Playing with legos, tiny ones in particular for his age.

    Peeling stickers off of things.

Have him use thongs to pick things like cotton balls up, or salad at the dinner table.

    Ripping paper.

Just about anything can help develop small motor skills, even sweezing a stress ball, you just need to be creative.
