  1. You need to work on technique.

Jumping is much more than just sprinting fast.

If jumping was only sprinting fast, then all sprinters would be elite jumpers, and they are not.

Since you can not get on the board you do not have a consistent run.

Realize that 95% of your jump is spent on the approach so you should spend most of your training time on your approach.

You can get a book or video to improve, and you need a coach to watch you so you will be able to change your errors.

All field events are more technical than physical so you must have some help.

  2. do pop-ups, which means you take a 5 step approach to the board, and work on getting higher in the air.

make sure you have your steps down so you don't scratch or so you aren't way behind the board.  it can make all the difference in competition.

you should also work on improving your leg strength by lifting weights.  anything that makes your legs stronger will help you jump farther.

continue to work on sprinting faster.

work on your landing in the sand.  you could learn how to do a "scootch" to make sure you get every possible inch out of your jump.

  3. To improve a long jump- you must jump father than you did before.
