  1. 1) work on your mechanics- Foot position, your cadence during engagement, controlling your props level and engagement sequence.

    2) strength and sprint conditioning- the best hookers can function as a third flanker especially in third phase play and beyond

    3) timing timing timing- cadence to a strike position and strike with an external cue- over and over again- you are training your muscle 'memeory' when your body can resond without thiniking it is more efficent and better than your opponent

  2. Well, there is this link that Keith Wood gives some tips!

there are other links on this site as well!

  3. I'm a Prop, and a good way for you to become a better hooker is not only work on yourself but make sure your props are doing what you want them to do. Some tips are: you can tap on the prop to signal to the scrum half you want the ball in. Make sure you have good balance, strength and leg co-ordination . Hope this helps.

  4. well a play scrumhalf but if u get stronger neck muscles and improve on ur leg reach and muscles u cood be a great hooker so hope u get better

  5. a big part of hooking which is neglected by a lot of coaches is hip placement and binds. i'm not sure of exactly how to set it up (it's early here in the states), but your hips should be forward/backward depending on the situation. (i.e.- opponents put-in, your put-in, potential wheel)

Read up on that and proper binds. often hookers will bind on the same location each scrumdown, but it's always should be relative to your props positioning and purpose of the scrum (see examples above.)

  6. The best way to improve your scrummaging is to hit a scrummaging machine again and again with your props. Work on not only your binding but getting low and hitting at the same time.
