  1. you could get a treadmill. just walk or run everyday no one will care. try to sit down less maybe or work out your legs a bit.

  2. ...

Joe, starting to run is like starting to play the guitar.  You don't start off by playing like a pro - you learn chords, single notes, the basics, right?  And with time and practice you pick up easy songs, then harder songs.  And you just have to "not care" what other people think, because you KNOW it takes time to get good!

The same with running.  Very few people in the USA start off running like a pro.  They start by running slow and short distances, and gradually increase the distance and the speed when they run.

So you're just starting.  That's great!  Just remember, you're just starting, and you WILL improve.  Just remember, you're in this for the long haul.  You can do it!  It just takes patience.

**Consider this to build up stamina.**

For 2 to 3 weeks, go out for 20 minutes a day, the same time every day (first thing is usually best!).  Run one minute nice and easy, walk one minute, until the 20 minutes are up.

After 2 or 3 weeks, run 2 minutes and walk 1 minute.

After 4 or 5 weeks, run 3 and walk 1.  If you stick with it this long, you might find it hard to hold back!  If you are ready, go ahead and run the 20 minutes non-stop.  Otherwise, go 3 and 1 til the 20 minutes are up.

    Next week, 4 and 1.  Then 5 and 1.

By the eighth week I have no doubt you can run 20 minutes, non-stop, every day.

After that, add 5 minutes per day per week.

    Week 8 and 9:  25 minutes a day.

    Week 10:  30 minutes a day.

And so on, until you reach your target time, which could be 30 or 40 or 60 minutes a day, or longer.  And you will!

    Regards,

    Phil

  3. to increase your stamina go on longer runs, like 4-5 miles if you are just starting. then the other runs will seem short. and if you are embarrased to run in public go find a street or something with not many people. I live out in the country so i run on trails and dirt roads, so not many people see me run.
