How can i improve my upper-body strength?

i am 13 and want to get better upper body strength. i have been doing 30 press-ups a day for 2 weeks and i am seeing a gradual icrease in strength. does anyone know of any better/ more efficient exercises

  1. Swimming. I find that if I swim more I have more strength. Also, doing pulls in the pool works great. (A pull [sp?] is where you use only your arms sometimes people put foam blocks in-between their legs to help keep them parallel to the bottom)

Yes lift weights and dumbells.  I notice at my gym there are more & more kids & teenagers (they are generally athletes).  Are your parents able to pay for you to go to a gym?  That is the best for upper body strength as you can pull weights there, which I find the best (& somehow pulling weights using machines is better than lifting weights).


  3. You have to be eating protein for muscle mass and doing something where you can increase the amount of weights dramatically. Heavy weights and small repititions will get you the muscle gain you desire. Start with the amount of weight you can handle and keep increasing it- once you can handle the weight you are doing. Push it a little by using just a little more weight than you think you can handle to get good and pumped up. Use a weight belt as to not get a hernia.

  5. its a pain in the ***, but press-ups are the way to go, morning and night, several sets. no limit as to how far you can go, thats why the army do hundreds of them. if you hav money to join a gym or buy weights then do that. protein shakes will work for recover time (basically u dont get too stiff the day after a workout) but unfortunately there isnt a way to just blow up into a ball of muscle :P

  6. dumbells... pushups...at your local playground if there is a bar you can do chin-ups

  7. for your entire upper body try doing sit ups if you work your core everything else will get stronger with it also do push ups bench press arm curls nose breakers push press and behind the neck press.
