Hello, i'm 16 years old, and i'm interested into getting into westpoint.

I've always been interested in the Navy, and i would really like to get into westpoint.

I'm a good student, last year, sophomore year in highschool i had a 4.0, and plan to do the same this year in all honors classes.

I'm pretty athletic, i haven't done any sports in highschool but i can, i'm a pretty fast runner and swimmer, i just haven't joined the team.

I'm of Palestinian-Arab decent, so will that hurt my chances? I was born and raised in the united states, i have no other affiliation with other countries.

So, how can i increase my chances into getting in?

  1. Get in good with your representative to Congress.  Write letters to her/him about why you want to go and why she/he should nominate you.  I would wait until the summer of your Junior year though.

  2. First. The US Military Acadamy at West Point, NY is for the US Army. The US Naval Acadamy at Annapolis, MD is US Navy. There's a really BIG difference. Second. The way to get to an Acadamy is to be nominated by a Senator or Cogressional Representative. Then you have to go thought testing. mental and physical. Then you sit and wait to be appointed. You should also apply for ROTC scholarships just in case the acadamy thing falls though.

  3. My former Brigade Commander was a Palestinian-American, it did not stop him.

To better your chances join a couple sports teams.  Showing that you can work on a team is what they look for.  Get involved with a club or other activity at your school also.

Start writing your congressman now asking about what you need to do for him/her to sponsor you for West Point.

Find out what the PT Test is to get into West Point and start training for it.

  4. Like stated above, West Point a.k.a. USMA is for the Army. USNA is the Navy. They both are excellent institutions that produce fine military officers.

In a nutshell, play varsity sports, be involved with clubs and organizations, and make good grades. Try to serve in leadership positions like President, Treasurer, and such. Being a Team Captain helps also. Be well-rounded.

The military seeks diverse candidates so do not worry about your background.

Start building your "resume" now. Do not wait until your junior or senior year. Perhaps, talk to your guidance counselor or contact USMA.
