Question:

How can i increase my salary in 9 months?

I have been with my company for over two yrs and would like to make a strong case for a pay raise. I plan to gain some more skills within a certain time frame (9 months - my salary review date).

Any advice on what skills i can achieve within that time frame? BTW am working in a software company. Am thinking about getting a Microsoft certification (MCTS) or PMP certification. Am confused help!!!

  1. Go to your library and check out a book/audio book called "Getting to Yes".  It is a negotiation strategy book and may be able to help you negotiate what you want.  I am listening to it now, it is dry but has really good information.  The same people (of the Harvard Negotiations Project) also have another book to follow that one.  Skills and other stuff will help alot but your ability to back yourself up with words will be the most important skill you will have at a performance review.


  2. Yes, definately get more certification for the profession you already do. Also, there's nothing wrong in searching for another job that pays more money. I know that might not be the ideal choice, but there isn't a guarentee that the current job will increase your pay just because you have the "new" certifications.
