  1. Wide screen is meant  to "increase viewing pleasure", so I think you are out of luck. I do believe that most movies these days have an option in  some sort of settings menu to make it full screen. Also, some movies come in two versions, Wide and Full screen, so be sure to buy the full screen version when you can.

  2. Not much you can do without skewing the picture and making it look all squashed. My advice is just to bite the bullet and buy a widescreen TV.

  3. most tvs have an aspect ratio setting on them

    refer to the manual or look in the menu for the TV settings (as long as its not too old - newer than 5/7 years depending on model) most also have a button marked form or 16:9 etc.. (mine does any way its a BEKO 32" widescreen 12K7CTPN-UZ CRT screen not LCD or plasma though)

    if your TV is really old or doesn't have the aspect ratio option buy a new one that does if you want a better viewing experience

  4. These "new fangled" widescreen movies have been in existence since 1952.

    You are a little behind the times...

  5. Either:-

    (a) cover the dark strips with family photos, glittery wrapping paper, and so on;

    (b) find a way to increase the electrostatic force of repulsion between the particles that comprise your TV;

    (c) Use your carving skills to create a sheet of magnifying glass which you can insert between you and the screen (the more powerful, the better); or

    (d) ditch the thing and read a book instead.
