Union Public service commission conduct civil services exam every year for various posts like IAS, IPS, IFS..etc mainly in two stages 1) Preliminary(objective type)  and 2) Main exam (subjective type). http://fsi.mea.gov.in/ ( institute for training and studies for forign services) and

http://meaindia.nic.in/onmouse/ifs.htm ( the body governing all the rules of intake for foreign services) .

there is no other route except when posted laterally from various minitries directly into IFS.

Every year UPSC calls for application for IAS, IPS, IFS etc apply , appear for written examination, if you pass the exam you will be called for interview, threafter medical check up, selection and training. but you have to work hard. teehere is no substitute to hard work.

This is same civil services exam you need to clear as that for IAS / IPS etc... Depending on the performance you get to choose IAS / IPS / IFS and lot other Indian services.
