How can i keep children from opening sliding glass door on balcony?

You can purchase little clamps which clamp onto both sides, the door and the part on the wall, and screws closed.  You can easily open it if you need to, but if you put it up high, a child cannot reach it and get out.

And I realize this may not STOP them, but it might be helpful.  Get one of those simple, attachable door chimes or alarms which will go off if the door opens.  At least this would alarm you--no pun intended! :-) --if the door is opened.

I would also suggest calling your local fire dept. and/or police station and asking them for suggestions.  Quite a sticky problem, I feel for you.

you can place a wooden dowel or metal rod in the track of the door so it can't slide open unless removed

They do have a small lock that goes behind the sliding glass door it is very small but works great. but you have to bend down to unlock the safety lock . It's to keep someone out or in.

If you don't use the door often it would keep it shut & safe. Its small and you s***w it. It is a better safty lock than a dowel. but a dowel will work if the childern aren't old enough to figure it out.
