  1. Get a monthly flea and tick gel that goes on your dog's skin. It's a repellent. you could also try a flea collar.

Oh and there's some stuff that you can throw on your lawn that's supposed to kill fleas and ticks.

  2. Flea baths are pretty useless... what they do is get rid of fleas on your dog at that moment and only that moment so its very common to see fleas on your dog hours to days later.

You need to get medication from your vet. They are the most effective way of getting rid of fleas. But don't except for this medication to be a quick fix either. They can take up to 3-4 months to work.

  3. Either advantix or frontline that you get from your vet.  They are the best.  Flea and tick collars don't work and never use hartz products on your pet.  This is why http://www.hartzvictims.org The frontline and advantix is more $$ but worth it in the long run.  Your dog will love you for it!

Edit: Also, there is a product called Capstar.  It is a pill that you give orally and it will kill fleas within 24 hours to give relief until the frontline or advantix starts to work.  It is very cheap!

  4. My vet recommended a medicated shampoo. So we started using Head and Shoulders on the dogs. It kills flea and about anything else that gets on the dogs . And it works without drying out their skin or coat. It also treats the irritations from the scratching. Once, sometimes twice, a month they get shampooed with Happy Jacks Itch No More shampoo. It is great also for irritated skin. Problem solved and we get lots of compliments on the look and feel of our dogs coats.

  5. It may not be fleas if he's scratching his butt on things.  It may sound odd, but it could be his anal glands.  You could ask your vet to check that out.  Do a search on dog anal glands and see if anything it mentions is similar.  When they use the bathroom, their anal glands secrete their scent and when it doesn't work properly it can cause them to scratch their butt like that.  Another cause could be worms.

  6. go to the vet:it can be his anal glands bothering him.

    For fleas:buy Advantage or Frontline.

Don't use the c**p from the store,it does not work, and i tried it:my dog was itching like mad!I had to bathe him, and buy the good stuff for fleas from my vet!

  7. Does he have fleas or is it just the warm weather making him itch,if it's fleas use frontline and bathe with a flea shampoo regularly. Also make sure his bedding is clean of flea's,you might have to do your yards as well........
